Waggish Writer Geeks Out: New Direction with the Fandom Effect

Hello and thank you for visit Waggish Writer.

For those who have been following my adventures with the The Fandom Effect, I have been listening to a podcast called "The Fandom Effect," hosted by The Bushido Geek, Mark Halberg, in my writing series known as "Waggish Writer Geeks Out."

The premise of the series is "to showcase how the fandoms we are part of can have a profound impact on our lives" (Halberg). Overall, the series promises to dive into the creations as well as the creators behind the shows and events that geeks worship in various degrees.

The Fandom Effect has undergone changes, including a new co-host, Devon McVettie and an update to the logo of the Fandom Effect. Also, when I last checked their list on Apple Podcasts, they currently have 52 episodes (53 if we count the missing Chef Chuck episode 4).

I was listening to episode 5, and I discovered myself drifting away from the conversation. What did this tell me?

I realized that the Fandom Effect is an ambitious project that seeks to cover the wide bandwidth of fandoms. When I was listening, I felt obligated to listen to the podcast in order of appearance. But why did I start listening to the Fandom Effect?

I started listening because I was looking for a place to connect to the fandoms that are near and dear to my heart. Dungeons & Dragons is one of my life-long obsessions. I enjoyed listening to cosplay and photography. Where I struggled to connect were with the culinary industry and video streaming.

I decided to rethink my approach to my work involving the Fandom Effect. I will offer more in-depth thoughts on the fandoms that resonate with me. Cliff notes will cover the other sections because even if the fandoms do not resonate with me, others may find the podcast episode resonate with them.

The Bushido Geek and his new co-host, Devon McVettie, do good work, and I will continue to support them in my small way of writing about their work.
