A Matter of Mantra: "I Make More Money When I'm Having Fun"

Hello and thank you for visiting Waggish Writer.

This is the fifth blog post from a series of my journalist persona known as "A Matter of Mantra."

This post will talk about how the mantra listed in the title came into my life and how it helps me. My hope is that if this mantra resonates with you that you may use it to help live your life to the fullest.

WHERE DID MY MANTRA COME FROM

For those who've been following 'A Matter of Mantra' series, money has something that shadowed my life. I have stressed in the past of having enough and making enough to sustain my needs. My track record of employment involves writing for a newspaper, checking customers out of Meijer, creating a library from scrap for a research group, and brewing coffees as well as teas for starting people's day. To most, these are on income bracket's lower level.

In working with Charlotte Kaye as my life coach, she challenged me to flip the concept on how I get money with the idea that when I'm having fun, I make more money. Hence, "I Make More Money When I'm Having Fun" inserted itself into my life.

HOW MY MANTRA HELPS ME

There are still days that I do worry about money. There are still days that I know that those who care about me the most worry about whether or not I would be able to make enough money to live on. Now, I have more peace because it is true that when I'm having fun, I make more money.

Working at the coffee shop, when I am feeling more myself (having coffee and breakfast before my morning shift), I interact with customers in a more positive way, and I work on upselling products. Either a customer will decide they would like some food with their drink or a tip finds its way into the tip jar.

Currently, I have a side venture in the world of writing where I earn a little bit of extra pocket money. The best part of this venture? I have fun! It's always a surprise of what I'll find waiting for me when I venture into the world of my side writing gig. Some days, I find work on some standard content. Some days, I find nothing. Some days, I discover a new way to write and a project type I've never considered writing. It teaches something new to me and stretches my creative wings. When I'm having fun with what I'm doing, anything that provokes anxiety seems to melt away. My flow comes more naturally as it is now as I am writing this post.

This is a mantra that will still hover in my life. However, I have more control over what I feel. I have faith I will be rewarded by pursuing what brings me joy. There will be work, but there will be fun and reward if I keep the fun in my life.

No one works the same way, so I am not preaching this mantra to be a fool-proof method. It is a tool and option that is out there for those who struggle with their confidence and self-esteem. I am better, but I can always improve.

As a writer, I take time each time I journal to write "I Make More Money When I'm Having Fun" five times. Write it. Talk it. Draw it. Tackle this mantra any way that gets the message across for yourself.

If the mantra has helped in any way or the story resonates and you feel comfortable in sharing, make a comment below or feel free to Contact Me if you want it private.
