A Forgotten Victory

Hello and thank you for visiting Waggish Writer.

This post is slightly different from my previous Poet persona postings. The reason is that I rediscovered that I had been a published author once for a poem.

I was in 6th grade, home schooled by a teacher who recently finished school and given the task to teach me and my four other siblings from a total of four different grade levels at the same time.

My teacher was very encouraging, and she suggested that I enter my poetry into a contest.

Inspired, I wrote "A Moment of Happiness," a poem that basically applies the five senses to an abstract idea. I submitted the poem to an online contest and forgot about it.

One day, I received a letter in the mail saying my poem had been accepted. I was so excited to be published. I actually fell to the floor in my stunned astonishment. Gracefully fallen, I did not faint, but I could have been close to fainting.

While I was published, the only way I could get the book was to purchase it. While my family was happy for my success, they limited the number of books we would get to immediate family members and a copy for me.

The books arrived in a box where I first gazed upon "Colors of Life," the first physical book that I knew had my work in it. I had been stunned upon opening the book that my poem was on page one with my name, "Erin Rose Fedeson."

I rediscovered the book when I had been visiting my family in part of my de-cluttering process. The poetry book has joined my personal library where I can look with pride that my poem is in a book.

Here is the poem written below in case the words are not clear.

"A Moment of Happiness
Happiness is colorful as Fourth of July Fireworks.
It sounds like a harp signing from the heavens.
It takes like a chocolate cake with frosting.
It smiles like a garland of red and white roses.
Happiness looks like an angel in flight.
It makes you feel that you are never alone in the world.
Erin Rose Fedeson"

My next step will be to level up by having a book, whether it is a whole book devoted to poetry or a book devoted to a whole adventure, that is all my content with my name on the spine and front cover as the author.

"The Colors of Life" is a badge of a forgotten victory.
